I am a painter and ceramic sculptor in equal measure. The relationship between my largely representational painting and dominantly abstract sculpture is a continual source of intuitive exploration and creative revelation. Common to both is a preoccupation with the orchestration of rhythmical structure emerging from a Cubo/Futurist sensitivity to visual form characterised by geometric dislocations, the interplay of convex and concave planes, and the mobilising of negative space; elements jostling, swaying and rotating whilst being held in a state of equilibrium.

Influences spring from such diverse areas as industrial machinery, modular forums in nature, and the architecture of Frank Gehry. A recently identified source of imagery has arisen from the fields of music and sport, where events in time are pictorially condensed into dynamic, time-lapse compositions. In terms of technique, paintings are typically built up in veils of acrylic colour, whilst ceramics are slab built by draping clay over improvised formers, cutting and joining when leather hard, and eventually glazing to stoneware temperatures.
